My Favorite Sugar Cookie Recipe

Bridal shower cookies I made for a friend several years ago.

A great cookie has to start with a great recipe. If you already have a winning recipe, then hurray! If not, I’m here to share the one I use. This recipe has received many accolades from friends and family alike. It’s adapted from This high altitude baking blog.

1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1.5 teaspoons vanilla
3 cups flour
1.25 teaspoons baking powder

  1. Beat together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla and mix together.
  2. Slowly add the flour and baking powder, mixing only enough to incorporate the ingredients.
  3. Separate into two portions, wrap each in saran wrap and chill for 20-30 minutes.
  4. Roll out dough, cut shapes, and put onto cookie sheet.
  5. Chill cookie sheet with raw cookie shapes for 10 minutes.
  6. Bake for 7-9 minutes at 360 degrees.
  7. Let cookies cool before decorating.
